In-state linebacker decommits from Alabama

The Alabama Crimson Tide have lost a commitment in their 2028 recruiting class. Three-star linebacker Ryquan Butler decommitted on Sunday, according to a report from Brendan Sonnone of 247Sports.

Butler is from Loachapoka, Alabama, and committed to Alabama on July 7. He picked the Crimson Tide over the FSU Seminoles, Ole Miss Rebels, Auburn Tigers, and several other programs.

He is ranked as the No. 521 overall player and No. 34 linebacker in the 247Sports composite. The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder is also the No. 19 player from Alabama.

While the loss stings, Alabama's 2028 recruiting class is still in a great place. They still have the top 2028 recruiting class in the country with six commitments overall, including three-star linebacker Dustin Henry. Four-star quarterback Kingston Preyear, the No. 44 player in the country, is their highest-ranked commit and the leader of the group.

Butler was enjoying an excellent start to his junior season before he decided to reopen his recruitment. In two games, he recorded 27 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, three quarterback hurries, and two forced fumbles for Loachapoka High School. He also plays on offense, carrying the ball 11 times for 92 yards and four touchdowns.
