Texas A&M Targets Rising 2028 TE Gregory Kirwan With SEC Offer

Texas A&M football is already looking well beyond the 2026 season, and Mike Elko’s recruiting machine has identified another intriguing piece for the future.

The Aggies have offered 2028 tight end Gregory Kirwan, a 6-5, 232-pound prospect from Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. Kirwan has quickly developed into a coveted national recruit, piling up more than 20 scholarship offers while attracting attention from multiple SEC programs.

For Texas A&M, the attraction isn't difficult to understand.

Kirwan brings the type of combination college coaches increasingly want at tight end: size, receiving ability, athleticism and enough physicality to contribute as a blocker.

His frame gives him an obvious advantage against smaller defenders, particularly in the middle of the field and in red-zone situations.

He's also a basketball player, another element that stands out when evaluating tight ends.

The footwork, body control and ability to play through contact required on the basketball court can translate particularly well to a position that increasingly demands receivers trapped inside bigger bodies.

Kirwan has already shown he can be more than just an oversized target. His film at Lipscomb Academy shows a player comfortable working as a receiver while also handling blocking responsibilities, something Texas A&M has consistently valued at the position.

The offer also fits into a much larger recruiting push happening under Elko.

Texas A&M's 2027 class currently sits No. 1 nationally in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and has assembled one of the deepest collections of blue-chip talent in the country.

The Aggies' haul includes five-star prospects such as offensive tackle Mark Matthews, safety Kamarui Dorsey, EDGE Zyron Forstall, linebacker Kaden Henderson and interior offensive lineman Kennedy Brown.

Now the Aggies are aggressively building relationships in the 2028 and 2029 cycles as well.

That's particularly important at tight end.

A&M's long-term depth chart could eventually revolve around younger players such as Evan Jacobson and Kiotti Armstrong, but college rosters change quickly through development, recruiting and the transfer portal. Stockpiling options years in advance remains critical.

Kirwan is still early in his recruitment, and competition for him will almost certainly increase as his high school career develops.

But Texas A&M has made its interest clear.

For Elko and tight ends coach Derek Shay, the Aggies are betting that Kirwan could develop into exactly what modern SEC offenses covet: a big-bodied tight end capable of creating matchup problems without becoming a liability when it's time to block.
