With the SWAC title out of reach for Alabama State football (9-2, 7-1 SWAC), the Hornets will turn their attention to the 101st Turkey Day Classic against Division II opponent Tuskegee.
So who will be the starter for Alabama State in its season finale in Week 14?
It’s been three weeks since quarterback Andrew Body has seen the field for Alabama State after injury his throwing shoulder on a dive to the end zone in Week 10’s game against Prairie View A&M. Body continues to rehab the injured shoulder in Birmingham, and has been with the Hornets on the sidelines during contests.
During Alabama State’s pregame warmups, Body is around backup QB Te’Sean Smoot, snapping the ball to the Jacksonville State transfer.
In Body’s absence, Smoot holds an unblemished record of 3-0 as Alabama State’s starter. In his three starts, Smoot has thrown for 677 yards and six touchdowns on 62 passing attempts. Smoot’s biggest game came in Week 13, where he threw four touchdowns to four different receivers.
“Body’s coming along and I think the optimism was the SWAC championship game or the Celebration Bowl, but either way, like I told him, even if he could play this game, it wouldn’t have made sense,” Alabama State coach Eddie Robinson Jr. said about the decision on who would play QB for The Hornets in Week 14.
“Smoot is doing a great job, so he’ll he’ll be the starter. He’s earned it. I mean, the way he’s been playing and playing at a high level, so super proud of him just taking advantage of the opportunity.”
Smoot and the Alabama State offense will be on a mission to continue its trend over scoring over 30 points and grab Alabama State’s 10th win of the season.
