The SEC Goes Perfect: All 16 Teams Win in Historic Week 1

The SEC just made a statement.
For the first time with the conference featuring 16 teams, every SEC program won its season opener, giving the league a perfect 16-0 record in Week 1. The historic weekend immediately reignited the debate over whether the SEC is once again the strongest conference in college football.
LSU Leads the Way
While several SEC teams cruised to comfortable victories, LSU delivered the biggest statement.
The Tigers dominated Clemson 51-10, giving new head coach Lane Kiffin an impressive debut and handing Dabo Swinney one of the worst losses of his career.
LSU’s performance showed the kind of offensive firepower and defensive dominance that could make the Tigers a legitimate College Football Playoff contender.
Not Everyone Had an Easy Night
The 16-0 record looks dominant, but not every SEC team cruised.
Auburn survived Baylor 17-16, with the Tigers needing a late defensive stop on a two-point conversion to preserve the victory.
Ole Miss also had to fight until the final seconds against No. 24 Louisville. The Rebels eventually escaped with a dramatic win, showing that even SEC teams expected to contend for the playoff can face serious challenges.
Those close games actually make the perfect record even more impressive.
The SEC vs. Everyone
The SEC entered 2026 looking to reclaim its position at the top of college football after the Big Ten had captured the previous three national championships.
A 16-0 opening weekend doesn’t automatically prove the SEC is the best conference in America. Many of the matchups came against overmatched opponents.
But there were enough impressive performances to get people’s attention.
LSU crushed Clemson, while teams such as Texas A&M, Florida, South Carolina, Missouri, Oklahoma and Tennessee also opened the year with convincing victories.
Can the SEC Keep It Going?
The perfect start won’t last forever.
The conference already has SEC-on-SEC matchups ahead, meaning someone has to lose. Week 2 features Alabama traveling to Kentucky, while several SEC teams face major nonconference tests.
That’s when we’ll learn much more about the true strength of the conference.
For now, though, the SEC has accomplished something historic.
Sixteen teams entered Week 1 looking for a win. All 16 walked away with one. The SEC is officially 16-0, and the rest of college football has been put on notice.
