Notre Dame has one of the biggest fan bases in college football.
The Fighting Irish opened the season on Sunday evening. Notre Dame took down Wisconsin in impressive fashion. The Fighting Irish topped the Badgers, 41-13, as they look like College Football Playoff contenders.
As Notre Dame opened the season with a win, the millions of Fighting Irish fans who didn’t actually go to school in South Bend, Indiana were mocked on social media.
“Notre Dame fans don’t even go to college anymore, they just look at you like this and give you a whole life story of how they became a fan because their great grandmas cousin (went to the bathroom) in South Bend one time,” a viral tweet wrote, mocking Notre Dame fans.
College football fans have taken to social media to mock Notre Dame fans
“One time a guy told me his grandfather was an immigrant and owned a deli. His initials were ND. Someone got the grandfather a Notre Dame decal for his store. The grandfather wasn’t Irish and didn’t know what football was. But the guy said he became a fan from seeing the decal growing up,” one fan wrote.
“My FIL is a ND fan because of ‘tradition’ and growing up in South Bend. Drives me crazy because he’s actually got two degrees from IU,” one fan added.
“Chicago has been filled with these people forever. They’re called Subway Alumni and they’re gross,” one fan added.
“I know multiple people who are Notre Dame fans because they like the movie Rudy… its the dumbest thing in the world,” one fan added.
Notre Dame is 1-0, though, and the Fighting Irish’s fan base is certainly happy.
