SEC lawsuit contains language to vote out LSU this week

The SEC is considering voting LSU out of the conference. In the amended lawsuit filed by the conference against LSU after Lane Kiffin tried to use professional players in Week 1, there is language that would allow the conference to vote the school out of the conference as soon as this week.
While they’re celebrating a dominant 51-10 win over Clemson in Baton Rouge this week, the SEC is looking for the legal power to terminate LSU as a member of the SEC according to Yahoo! Sports’ Ross Dellenger. ESPN also ran a story saying the conference “seeks the authority for the SEC to expel LSU from the league.”

In the filing, the SEC said its presidents and chancellors will meet Thursday to decide whether to terminate LSU as an SEC member institution pursuant to Section 3.1.5 of the SEC Constitution and Bylaws, which gives the presidents the “plenary power and authority with respect to all affairs of the Conference of any type or nature whatsoever,” including the power to “[t]ake all actions specified and contemplated in Article 3 [of the Constitution] in their sole discretion.”

LSU vs. SEC
Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris spent time with NFL teams over the summer, but did not make a roster. Kiffin then recruited them to petition for an extra year in college so they could play at LSU. Kiffin and the Tigers watched as everything played out in the courts and decided at the last minute not to put them on the roster for the game against Clemson, but left two roster spots open so they might add them later.

On Saturday, while leading 31-3 at halftime, Kiffin quipped to Holly Rowe, “Imagine if we had pro players.” It was an interesting choice of words while you’re trying to convince the legal system that your players were not technically professionals, but Kiffin isn’t trying to hide anything.
Paul Finebaum said that Kiffin’s actions were pushing the sport towards “absolute chaos and moral decay.” By even saying out loud that they’re considering expelling LSU, they’re making a statement. The conference had already threatened huge fines and a suspension for Kiffin if the Tigers play any players who were NFL to college transfers.
