ESPN SP+ ratings system predicts final score for Michigan State-Eastern Michigan matchup

Will Michigan State football improve to 2-0 on the year with a second straight win over a MAC foe? The SP+ predictive model believes the Spartans will do so in convincing fashion.

Bill Connelly of ESPN has posted his weekly SP+ predictions for every FBS game this week, and it currently is projecting the Spartans to win with relative ease this week against Eastern Michigan. The algorithm has Michigan State winning by the final score of 35-16, suggesting the Spartans will cover the current betting spread of 17.5 points.

Michigan State comes into this matchup looking to build off last week's season-opening win over Toledo. The Spartans needed to rally in the fourth quarter to avoid the upset and pick up the 30-20 victory over the Rockets.

Eastern Michigan will be playing its third game of the season this week, splitting the first two matchups. The Eagles lost a close battle to San Jose State last week, and this will mark their first road game of the year.

Kickoff between Michigan State and Eastern Michigan is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Mich. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

My Thoughts on SP+ Prediction

This prediction from SP+ is in line with the betting spread so this prediction seems about right. I personally like Michigan State to cover the spread and win this game by a more convincing number. But if the Spartans are struggling to cash in on touchdowns like we saw last week then this game certainly could be closer to the SP+ prediction.
