SEC sets meeting to discuss booting LSU from conference

Former NFL players Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris didn't ultimately join LSU's roster ahead of its season-opening 51-10 beatdown against Clemson, but that doesn't mean the Tigers' battle with the SEC is over.
After the league sued LSU over a recently passed rule barring players who have signed NFL contracts from returning to school, it seems the SEC presidents are still looking to punish the university. On Tuesday, Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger reported that the SEC will meet on Thursday to discuss whether to "terminate (LSU) as an SEC member institution."
The SEC recently amended its filing in the federal lawsuit against LSU, outlining the process for expelling a member from the league. To do so, it would require a vote of support from 11 of the 16 SEC members.

Per Dellenger, the amended filing also accuses LSU of a lack of institutional control for continuing to publicly entertain the possibility of adding professional players. The league is seeking a temporary restraining order that would allow it to potentially expel LSU.

As well as the amended complaint, the SEC also requested a temporary restraining order against LSU to pave the way for it to expel the university from the conference in a vote scheduled for Thursday.

It remains to be seen whether this is a negotiating tactic or if the SEC is truly considering expelling LSU — a founding member in 1932 — from the league.
What is clear, however, is that SEC presidents want to see LSU face repercussions. Per Dellenger, the belief among them is that they have the votes to place the Tigers on probation, at the very least.
Lane Kiffin's LSU tenure has been a circus since before it began, and that doesn't seem to be changing any time soon.
