AP Poll: Michigan Football drops out of Top-25 after ugly win vs WMU

With Week 1 of the 2026 college football season now officially in the books following SMU-Florida State on Monday night, we have an update to the AP Poll. And Wolverines fans aren’t gonna like this one.
After an ugly, controversial game in which Michigan needed a Bryce Underwood Hail Mary touchdown pass to defeat Western Michigan, the Wolverines have been punished by voters, sliding from No. 16 to unranked in this week’s AP Poll.
It’s a deserved drop for the Wolverines. Their offense sputtered for much of the game, as Underwood, the offensive line and run game turned in mightily disappointing outcomes. And a respectable defensive effort wasn’t enough to keep the Broncos from nearly holding on for the upset victory. And as a result, the Wolverines have been knocked completely out of the rankings; though with Michigan’s forthcoming slate of big matchups, there’ll be room to either make up ground or cede some more of it.
Around the Big Ten Conference, Ohio State holds firm at No. 1, coming off a 56-3 trouncing of Ball State. Also clocking in are Indiana (No. 5) Oregon (No. 6), USC (No. 14), Penn State (No. 16), Washington (No. 19) and Iowa (No. 21).
