Clemson: Georgia Southern DB 'Pretty Happy About Our Odds' Against Tigers

On Tuesday, Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney was willing to chalk up Saturday night's 51-10 disaster to LSU as a one-game sample against a Lane Kiffin-coached team that could be the best in the country.

The rest of the country seems to think Clemson is closer to a bunch of nobodies than even Swinney wanted to admit he had in training camp. The Tigers' opponents smell blood in the water. 

When speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Georgia Southern defensive back Aaron Sears was asked if he thought Clemson was "vulnerable" after losing to LSU on Saturday. Sears said he's happy about the Eagles’ chances of earning a win on the road on Saturday.

"Oh, for sure," Sears said, via video posted to X from Grayson Mann of Tiger Net. "I don't like jumping the gun, but once I’ve seen some of the things I've seen… 

"I was, you know, smiling, pretty happy about our odds going into this game this week, and just yeah, really happy and pumped up for it, being ready to execute and go handle our business."

Sears made two tackles in Georgia Southern's 31-0 over Charleston State on Saturday. From a defender's perspective, it would be hard to argue with Sears. Clemson finished with 105 yards passing and 40-yard rushing against LSU. 

During his radio appearance on Monday, Swinney said it was unrealistic to expect Clemson to go undefeated. He thinks blowout losses like what happened on Saturday just happen.

"I just think it's a terrible mindset to have," Swinney said. “We're not going to go undefeated every year. How many times has that happened in the history of 130 years? 

"And in today's college football, there's not going to be many teams that, somewhere, don't have a loss or have a bad day. … We work all year for 12 days, and that's a bad day. And so you pick yourself up and you get back in the fight and you learn. Let's go get better next week."

The Tigers desperately need a win against the Eagles on Saturday. A loss could send Swinney and his team spiraling.
