The Colorado Buffaloes are earning national respect after a strong first week.
The Buffaloes landed at No. 7 in Yahoo Sports' college football top 10 following their 14-13 win at Georgia Tech on Thursday night. Yahoo's voters credited Deion Sanders' team for traveling across the country and controlling the line of scrimmage against a program widely regarded as one of the ACC's better teams.
Colorado managed just 307 yards of offense, yet the Buffaloes did the things right to win close road games. Julian Lewis mounted an eight-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that ended with a 20-yard completion to Charlie Williams for the game-winner with 37 seconds remaining.
The polls are starting to notice
The recognition stretches beyond Yahoo. Colorado received votes in the AP Top 25 for the first time this season after the dramatic victory in Atlanta, picking up 3 votes. The Buffaloes also earned 1 vote in the US LBM Coaches Poll, landing them in the "others receiving votes" section.
Chris Marve's defense deserves much of the credit. Georgia Tech finished with 51 rushing yards, a reflection of the front seven controlling the line of scrimmage all evening. The performance was enough to push Colorado into the national conversation after Week 1.
The Buffaloes host Weber State on Saturday at Folsom Field.
