MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher declared the NCAA appeal the Western Michigan’s 13-12 Week 1 loss to the Michigan Wolverines after claiming that replay protocol was not followed. This decision came not long after the MAC had initially accepted the result of the bizarre Clockgate ending. That’s exactly what Dave Portnoy reminded Steinbrecher about on Tuesday.

The 49-year-old Barstool Sports’ founder shared the original official statement the MAC made after Western Michigan lost to Michigan, of the conference accepting the Big Ten’s explanation for why one more second was put back on the clock. In typical Portnoy fashion, he also shared his own choice of words calling out Steinbrecher.

“Umm sorry little guy,” Portnoy said. “No backsies. You lost fair and square. Your words not mine.”

Dave Portnoy has, and always will, go to bat for his favorite sports teams. Shortly after Michigan was deemed the winner after their second Hail Mary attempt, he jumped on social media and bragged about the Wolverines’ victory. He even went as far as to claim the program played against a substantially tougher opponent in Western Michigan than the Oregon Ducks did in Week 1, who played the Boise State Broncos.

This is a messy situation that does not appear to have an end in sight. While the drama continues to unfold, the Wolverines, who are now unranked, will take on the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners in Week 2. After struggling against Western Michigan, Michigan will need to make some serious improvements if the program hopes to defeat the Sooners.
