Colorado's Deion Sanders 'happy' but not content after Georgia Tech win

Deion Sanders entered the Champions Center to meet with the media on Tuesday and was feeling himself after the win over Georgia Tech. He was wearing a “You Already Know” sweatshirt and sunglasses and seemed to be in a good mood. But Coach Prime was less celebratory than many might have expected for the Colorado Buffaloes.

Just before he gave his customary honors and acknowledgment of other Colorado athletic programs, Sanders spent some time giving love to Weber State head coach Eric Kjar. The former high school coach moved his way up and is coaching in college for the first time in his career. He would later admit that he will not lean on Issac Wilson’s high school familiarity with Kjar for likely outdated intel for Saturday.

Sanders gave credit to Chauncey Gooden for being the highest graded defensive lineman in the country this week, according to PFF.

Despite still claiming to not know about what PFF does, he also reiterated his criteria for playing both ways. Gooden has earned playing both ways and will continue to do so. Sanders also made sure to give Buffs Nation a shout out for traveling to Atlanta.

“Hats off to Buffs Nation,” Sanders said. “I think we have the best fans in the country knowing what transpired on the field last season. With lackluster effort at times, but they showed up in Atlanta.”

Happy but not content

Coach Prime is happy with the production, running the football and stopping the run. However, when the question was asked about CU's rushing attack, he gave some context to the previous years. “You also have to go with your strengths too," Sanders said.

"The goal was not to run for 300 (yards) when you had a quarterback like we had (Shedeur Sanders) and four receivers still in the NFL because of how we threw the heck outta the ball. I don’t think they would be there if we didn’t do what we did”.

On the subject of maintaining focus, going from seven-point underdogs to five touchdown favorites, Prime said that part is easy. Adding that maybe the most critical play made on Thursday was the result of a complete buy-in. Cree Thomas made the critical late tackle because the message had been received. There is an understanding this season that may not have been here last year, from a constant effort standpoint.
