The Georgia Bulldogs (1-0) are heavy favorites against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (0-1), who are Georgia's first Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponent of the year. Georgia plans to wear all-white uniforms for the first time in school history against Western Kentucky.
In Week 1, Georgia pummeled Tennessee State 63-3 in an all-around strong performance. Western Kentucky lost 49-14 at Nevada in Week 1 in a surprisingly poor start to the season for the Hilltoppers, who went 9-4 and won the New Orleans Bowl last season.
"I know Tyson Helton and have a lot of respect for him as a coach in the program," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said on playing Western Kentucky. "They've done a tremendous job with their program over years, and they've got several members from our staff that are working up there. We've got a close connection.
"Their coaches come down and work our camps in the summer, and they've got a lot of Georgia kids in their program. It should be a great opportunity for us to continue to get better."
Georgia didn't have many glaring weaknesses from the Tennessee State game, but the Bulldogs can play better. Georgia had 85 penalty yards against Tennessee State and a special teams miscue. Georgia doesn't want to make those sort of mistakes against a higher level of competition.
The Georgia versus Western Kentucky game will be televised on SEC Network at 12:45 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 12. The commentators for the game are Taylor Zarzour, former Georgia offensive lineman Matt Stinchcomb and Michella Chester.
