Kentucky Football gets a bowl prediction

Kentucky Wildcats fans across the Commonwealth are strutting with optimism after decimating Youngstown State 45–13 on Saturday. The Cats did exactly what they were supposed to do in front of a tremendous crowd at Kroger Field for the season opener. It would have been difficult to ask for a better beginning to the much‑anticipated Will Stein era.
The margin of victory was impressive, but an SEC squad should dismantle a team from the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The real takeaway was watching Stein’s offensive approach unfold on the field. It was a treat for the BBN to watch Kenny Minchey toss four touchdown passes while pushing an expedited pace of play. Hearing about it all summer was one thing — watching it firsthand against live competition was another.
After the win, the Cats began to receive some love from the national media and even appeared as one of eight new teams in Brett McMurphy’s updated Week 2 bowl projections.

Tampa, Florida — The Gasparilla Bowl. The game is slated to kick off at 2:30 PM on December 18th, just ahead of the opening round of the College Football Playoff.
It’s fair to say most Kentucky fans are currently laser-focused on knocking off 12th‑ranked Alabama this Saturday and unmoved by the idea of playing in the Gasparilla Bowl. Beating or even keeping pace with Bama would really catapult the bowl conversation for Kentucky moving into week 3.
It’s worth noting that McMurphy bumped Alabama to #9 in the country on his top-25 list after their 48-10 thrashing of Eastern Carolina in their season opener.
Nonetheless, Kentucky passing the eye test against Youngstown State was a necessary first step for Stein, and it’s encouraging to see UK mentioned as being on a positive trajectory. It’s likely we’ll see the Cats mentioned on similar lists before the weekend hits.
