The LSU Tigers and Lane Kiffin are coming off of a 51-10 drubbing of the Clemson Tigers in the head coach’s debut in the purple and gold. Following the dominant performance in week one, LSU will now shift its attention towards in-state opponent Louisiana Tech who will make the trip to Baton Rouge next Saturday. The Bulldogs demolished the Northwestern State Demons 80-6 last weekend. Ahead of this week’s contest, let’s take a look at the Tigers’ offensive matchup.
Louisiana Tech held its first opponent of the year to just six points and less than 130 yards over the course of the game. The Bulldogs limited the Demons to just a combined 4-19 on third and fourth down attempts in addition to forcing the only turnover of the contest, a first quarter interception.
Although they may have been playing a lesser team, it is clear to tell that Louisiana Tech is well coached and plans effectively no matter the opponent and that simply is not something that LSU can afford to overlook.
The Tigers managed to find plenty of offensive success versus Clemson in week one as they picked up a school record 38 first downs. LSU finished 12-17 on third and fourth down attempts and had 644 total offensive yards, a near even split between passing and rushing. QB Sam Leavitt’s second pass attempt of the game was picked off after a bobbled football, but the Tigers had no turnovers the remainder of the game.
In 2025, LA Tech had one of the better defenses in the country as they allowed an average of just 20.8 points per game. The Bulldogs struggled more against the pass than the run overall but still prevented opposing teams from getting into scoring range often.
LSU’s offense is completely revamped with transfers galore and now under the coaching of Lane Kiffin and Charlie Weis Jr., but will need to utilize this upcoming game against a Conference USA opponent to fine tune a relatively new group ahead of conference play beginning in week three.
