The SEC and LSU football have been in a bit of a back-and-forth as LSU has pushed the rules concerning former NFL players returning to the college ranks. The SEC was scheduled to vote on the expulsion of LSU on Thursday, but that is no longer an agenda item in their upcoming meeting.
While expulsion seems to be off the table now, teams in the SEC will still have to talk about LSU, and Texas A&M coach Mike Elko is doing just that, according to Thomas Goldkamp of On3.
“This is a little bit like the son figuring out where the limits are until dad comes home and raises his voice, and then the son goes, ‘I was just kidding, I didn’t mean any of that,’” Elko said. “I think that’s what you’re seeing.”

The SEC has filed a federal lawsuit, and in the lawsuit, it sought to confirm the league’s power to discipline as it sees fit. That hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, but the hearing was continued and will be rescheduled at a later date. Regardless, LSU is still part of the future of the SEC, something Elko admits to.
“LSU will be in the SEC,” he said. “LSU will be fired up when we go to Baton Rouge in a couple weeks. All of those things are going to happen. This is just a little bit of, parenting, going on right now.”
While Elko is insinuating that the SEC is the parent in this situation, LSU has a chance to show everyone who is the boss on the field. After a dominating win over Clemson, LSU has catapulted to one of the top teams in the nation. They will host Louisiana Tech this Saturday, before visiting Ole Miss and hosting Texas A&M in the following weeks.
