Texas A&M easily entered the win column after crushing Missouri State, 50-0, in their season opener at Kyle Field on Saturday. While the Aggies did not play to their standard, they still rolled their way to the shutout.
Marcel Reed put on an impressive performance, throwing 21-of-30 for 233 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He also had seven carries for 20 yards. The eighth-seeded Aggies turned it on in the second half, pouring in 31 points.
While Texas A&M won’t face Texas until November in the latest chapter of their heated rivalry, Reed is already being asked about it. The fourth-year quarterback is 0-2 against the Longhorns, but he downplayed it and refused to give credit to Texas.

“We lost the game ourselves. Whenever we lose, it’s not because any team necessarily beat us. It’s because we didn’t do the things we were supposed to do,” claimed Reed, as quoted by Sports Illustrated’s Zach Dimmitt.
Marcel Reed spoke with SportsCenter about being winless vs Texas.
Said the losses are due to what Texas A&M hasn’t done.

In 2024, Texas A&M lost to Texas, 17-7. Reed went 16-of-23 for 146 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. In 2025, the Longhorns won again by 10 points, 27-17. Reed played worse, going 20-of-32 for 180 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions.
The last time Texas A&M beat Texas was in 2011, although their annual rivalry was paused after that due to the Aggies’ move to the SEC. The Longhorns joined the SEC in 2024.
Meanwhile, with Reed at the forefront, coach Mike Elko is confident about their campaign, stressing that tuning out the outside noise is imperative.
“I’ll be the guy who comes in and doesn’t care about the opinions of people who don’t know as much as I do because I’m going to do what I think is right every single day and put everything I have into what I think can make us successful,” said Elko in a report from Aggies Wire’s Cameron Ohnysty.
Texas A&M will face Arizona State in Week 2.
