Oklahoma visits the Big House in Ann Arbor, Mich., Saturday, Sept. 12, with the Sooners favored by 5.5 points in a noon ET kickoff on FOX. My Oklahoma vs. Michigan prediction examines whether Michigan can rebound at home after nearly choking to a non-Power 4 opponent in Week 1.

TOP PICK
Who will win Oklahoma vs Michigan: Michigan +5.5
It won't get to this point, but I'm willing to play the Michigan Wolverines down to +2.5 when they host the Oklahoma Sooners in Week 2.
The last three home underdogs won outright in their next game after losing to the spread by at least 21 points as a 21+ point favorite.
This applies to Michigan, which needed a controversial and miracle Hail Mary at the end of regulation to beat Western Michigan 13-12 last week as a -28 favorite.
The market dramatically overreacted to this result. This summer, Michigan was a -2.5 favorite in some places. But after last week’s clunker, Oklahoma is a -5.5 favorite in Ann Arbor. In principle, I have to fade this line movement.
I’m a big fan of first-year Kyle Whittingham, who built an underrated football program at Utah before going to Michigan. Crazy things happen all the time in football, so I’m not overreacting to the Wolverines nearly choking last week.
Michigan is still 10th in team talent composite nationally, which is ahead of Oklahoma at 17th, according to 247Sports.com, and Ann Arbor is one of the toughest places to visit in college football.
Oklahoma vs Michigan Over/Under pick: Under 43.5
We have two defensive-minded head coaches, Whittingham and Oklahoma's Brent Venables, with better defensive personnel. According to ESPN college football analyst Bill Connelly, Oklahoma ranks sixth nationally in defensive SP+ ratings after Week 1, and Michigan is 17th.
Utah had the 18th-highest rushing rate in the country last season under Whittingham. Based on what we saw from Michigan QB Bryce Underwood last week — 12-of-22 for one touchdown and one interception — I'm expecting the Wolverines to "establish the run" Saturday.
Oklahoma is 7-9 Over/Under (O/U) vs. ranked opponents since hiring Venables in 2022, 5-8 O/U as a road favorite and 6-11-1 O/U against non-conference teams.
Oklahoma vs Michigan prop: Michigan +3.5 first-half spread
Keeping up with the theme of this handicap, I'm banking on Michigan looking completely different than it did last week. The only games Michigan has lost at home since 2021 were to teams ranked inside the top-10 of the AP Poll and Oklahoma is 11th.
Heck, even if the Wolverines don't play with their hair on fire to start the game, this pick can still hit if these teams have long scoreless drives, missed field goals, turnovers, etc.
Oklahoma vs Michigan combo
My three picks are obviously correlated. I'm counting on both playing smash-mouth football, which makes it tougher for Oklahoma to win by a margin and the Over to cash. Also, the Sooners could start slow because they are trying to get their bearings while playing in front of a hostile crowd.
Oklahoma vs Michigan combo
- Michigan +5.5
- Under 43.5
- Michigan +3.5 first-half spread
