The Lake Nona football team looks like it is coming together after taking in at least 10 transfers on its 2026 roster. The Lions shut down Edgewater, No. 3 in the Sentinel Super 16 Coaches Poll, in a 24-3 victory; while No. 5 West Orange survived a scare from Ocoee, winning 13-12.
Jones, Seminole, Evans and Oviedo all rolled to victories in a loaded slate of Thursday night games.
Here are highlights, with rankings from the Super 16:
No. 13 Lake Nona def. No. 3 Edgewater 24-3
Lake Nona (3-1) saw its defense, led by defensive tackle Darren White-Jackson, safety Charles Woodson Jr., and linebacker Anthony Moreno, as well as key transfers safety Taebor Williams, defensive end Mackenzi Aldeus and linebacker Jacob Duffy, suffocate the Eagles (2-2). Edgewater was missing touted sophomore running back Jahmari Hammonds for the second straight week.
Lake Nona’s defense forced Edgewater to turn the ball over on downs three times in the second half.
Lions quarterback Elijah Nickerson was back from a two-game suspension, and the Lake Nona offense was back to the form that saw it knock off Evans in a season-opener. Nickerson threw a pair of touchdown passes to Sebastian Lora and also ran for a score.
“We’re super excited about the physicality of football that we play now at Lake Nona. The kids have worked hard in the weight room all summer long,” said Lake Nona head coach David Aubrey. “Seeing these guys gel together and put a complete game together, we’re excited about the direction we are going in.”

No. 5 West Orange def. Ocoee 13-12
West Orange improved to 4-0 after Ocoee (2-2) which missed a 40-yard field goal try with time running out.
“Hats off to Ocoee. They did some things and had a lot of success,” said West Orange coach Geno Thompson. “We made a lot of mistakes, but (Ocoee) did a good job. They had a great plan.”
Ocoee bottled up Warrior junior quarterback AJ Chung. He completed 8-of-16 passes for 115 yards. Senior receiver Yuto Kawamura-Johnson had 4 catches for 65 yards.
Caleb Postell ran for a touchdown for West Orange, and Jayden Ammons scored the game-winner from 34 yards out in the third quarter.
Kamari Shaw and Jeremiah Willson both had touchdown runs for Ocoee, which led 12-7 until the Ammons touchdown.
No. 3 Jones def. Boone 24-9
The Jones (2-1) defense continued to show its strength, sacking Boone (1-2) quarterback Jake Nassar three times and adding an interception, a blocked punt and a blocked field goal.
Pennsylvania transplant Dejour Webb had two sacks and Fred Ards had a sack and a blocked field goal. Jayden Donaldson had an interception.
Offensively for Jones, quarterback Peyton Carroll threw for 132 yards on 14-for-18 passing, with two touchdowns to Antwoine Glover.
No. 6 Seminole def. University (Orange City) 42-7
The Seminole (4-0) defense rose up again in what has become a trademark for this 2026 squad. Mason Willis had a 65-yard interception return for a touchdown and Jackson Robbins recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown.
Quarterback Daniel Proenza threw for 170 yards and a pair of touchdowns to Ladarian Hill and Cameron Roberts, and then caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Isaiah Taylor on a trick play. Taylor threw another TD pass to Brandyce Jackson.
Safety Antrell Anderson is having an impressive season. He had seven tackles to lead the Seminoles’ defense. King Manley, Jaylen Lowman and Marcus Geddie had five stops each.
Super 16 Coaches Poll: DeLand football returns to unanimous No. 1 status
No. 10 Evans def. No. 14 Winter Park 38-14
Evans coach Karlos Odum saw what he has expected all along from quarterback Will Jackson, who completed 17-of-22 passes for 383 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for a 13 yard TD and Daveon Williams added 100 yards rushing and a TD.
The Trojans (2-2) defense, which has been stout all season, forced a change of possession on five different Winter Park (2-2) drives inside the 30, as the Wildcats struggled in and near the red zone.
Winter Park jumped out early after Brandon Paisley picked off Jackson’s first pass and returned it 17 yards for a touchdown to give the Wildcats a 7–0 lead. It was all Evans after that.
Brian Dillard scored on an 85-yard touchdown pass from Jackson, and Alex Rossi had three catches for 96 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown.
“Yeah, the kids were trying to come out of a slump. It’s been a really tough three weeks,” Odum said. “Tonight we got an opportunity to kind of play loose and free and I thought we played pretty well for four quarters.”
Jackson, who transferred to Evans this season, showed poise and accuracy even when being chased out of the pocket. The 85-yard TD pass to Dillard in the second quarter was a thing of beauty. As Jackson scrambled to his right and then left, he saw Dillard break open in the secondary and hit him with a 25-yard strike. Dillard did the rest from there.
Winter Park, missing starting quarterback Onrique Archie, got 173 yards passing (14-of-22) from Caden DePriest. And Tristan Gunn, back from a hamstring injury, caught four balls for 127 yards.
Oviedo 48, Melbourne 24
Oviedo’s senior quarterback, Sebastian Galeano, passed for 300 yards and four touchdowns as the No. 10 Lions (2-2, 1-0) opened Class 5A District 5 play with a win over the visiting Bulldogs (2-2, 0-1). Johnnie Cobb added 180 rushing yards on 19 carries for Oviedo.
Innovation def. Lake Buena Vista 63-0
The Bulls, in only their third year of existence, improved to 4-0 and they have taken charge of the FHSAA Independent League’s Pool A North standings. Quarterback Kaleb Kielski threw thtree touchdown passes, two to Duke Meckstroth. Defensively, Grant Gaston had a sack, a safety and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Jordan Lynch, Jaden Cortes, JT Mindrup and Dean Adams also had sacks.

Horizon (2-2) cruised to a 36-6 win against Cypress Creek (0-4), which owns the state-leading losing streak.
