Big 12 football games to watch in Week 2 of 2026 season

The first week of the season was exciting in the Big 12. Colorado pulled off a stunning comeback against Georgia Tech, while Baylor's game came down to the final play against Auburn. Oklahoma State also lost in a bit of a shocking upset to Tulsa in their opener. Looking ahead to Week 2, another exciting slate of games awaits.

Best Game of the Week: No. 15 BYU vs Arizona

BYU had a dominant start to the season with their 63-7 win over Utah State, while the Wildcats dismantled Northern Arizona in their season opener. Personally, I have enjoyed watching Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita the past few seasons. The Wildcats also seem competitive, and that showed in the votes they received in the US LBM Coaches Poll. Perhaps if this game were happening a little later in the season, both teams would be ranked. I will also be looking forward to seeing how Arizona deals with BYU's star running back LJ Martin, who had a quiet day in their opener with only seven carries. Martin, the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year last season, could make this game very entertaining as well.

Big 12 Upset to Watch

Potential upset: No. 13 Texas Tech vs. Oregon State

Technically, Arizona beating BYU would be an upset. But the Beavers taking down Texas Tech would be a far more shocking upset.

In a weekend of massive blowouts, the Red Raiders only won their opener against Abilene Christian by 23 points. Now, they face Oregon State, who put up a real fight in their season opener against Houston. This game could easily become a blowout where Texas Tech shows why they are the favorites to win the Big 12 and reach the College Football Playoffs for the second year in a row. However, Oregon State is not a team to overlook despite their terrible 43-181-3 record against AP-ranked teams.

Other Big 12 Action 

Another game to pay attention to in the Big 12 is when No. 10 Texas A&M faces Arizona State. The Sun Devils tend to play spoiler and just beat a top-10 team, Texas Tech, last season. Even if they aren't playoff-caliber, they're competitive and opponents cannot underestimate them. Arizona State also smoked Morgan State in their season opener with quarterback Cutter Boley throwing for 387 passing yards and six touchdowns. This is another matchup that could give college football its first massive upset of the season.

The Big 12 has one Friday game this week: Kansas takes on No. 23 Missouri. This could be another game that flies under the radar if the Jayhawks are competitive and avoid costly mistakes. After their disappointing opener loss, Oklahoma State will face No. 6 Oregon, which probably will not end well for them.

In other Big 12 news, Kansas State faces another member of the new Pac-12, Washington State, which was also competitive in its season opener. Nonetheless, Kansas State is still heavily favored. West Virginia plays UT Martin and looks for its second win of the season, while Colorado takes on Weber State.

UCF faces a tough battle against Pittsburgh, while No. 22 Houston takes on Southern from the FCS; Cincinnati also has a matchup against a FCS team with West Carolina. Iowa State plays an intrastate game against No. 21 Iowa, while TCU looks for its first win of the year when it takes on Grambling. Baylor is also looking for their first win of the season against Prairie View.

No. 20 Utah will play against Arkansas in the latest game of the Big 12 weekend slate. The Utes are favored to win, and it will be the first time the two have faced each other in football.
