KaMario Taylor showcased promising potential as a freshman last year. His ceiling presented an optimistic take for Nick Saban to express about the Mississippi State Bulldogs quarterback.
Taylor is preparing for the second year of his collegiate career with the Bulldogs. He made 11 appearances that included two starts in 2025, throwing for 629 yards with five touchdowns and one interception. Taylor also finished third on the team in rushing yards with 458 on just 82 carries while leading the team in rushing touchdowns with eight.
Saban talked about Taylor’s skillset during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. He believed that the quarterback will exceed expectations and surprise a lot of people as a player in the SEC.

“He’s the real deal now. He’s the truth and the light,” Saban said.
“Just watching the guy play a little bit last year and a lot this year and then talking to Jeff Lebby, this guy is a very good passer but athletic and can run and create plays on his own. I think this guy is gonna be a big-time surprise for a lot of people in the SEC.”

What lies ahead for KaMario Taylor, Mississippi State
Nick Saban has coached plenty of collegiate stars during his time at Alabama, who went on to play in the NFL. It shows his solid eye for talent in football, seeing KaMario Taylor has the ceiling to have a promising career if he stays on the right path.
Taylor is Mississippi State’s starter to begin this campaign. He dominated in the season opener, leading the Bulldogs past the ULM Warhawks by a 62-13 score. He threw for 354 yards and four touchdowns, off to a great start as the team’s offensive leader.
The Bulldogs will look forward to their Week 2 matchup of the season. They take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers as kickoff commences on Sept. 12 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
