Week 2 Open Thread

Week 1 had some tense, close games (Oregon beating Boise, Western Michigan beating Michigan [as I choose to remember it]) and some marquee matchups (LSU vs. Clemson), but the two didn’t overlap much. Will we get more competitive games involving top teams in Week 2?

Friday Night: #23 Missouri vs. Kansas in a rivalry game is the only FBS vs. FBS matchup on Friday night. #7 Miami, #24 Louisville, and #25 Virginia all play against FCS teams for the true ACC sickos among you.

Saturday Early: Michigan hosts #11 Oklahoma trying to avoid two home losses to open the season (again, by my standard). Arizona St faces a very tough early test with a trip to #10 Texas A&M. Oregon will head to Stillwater to play a rebuilding Oklahoma St team, while Penn St, Indiana, and Georgia all have games that look lopsided on paper.

Saturday Midday: This is the window where the Huskies host Utah St, but if you’re watching from home, you can second-screen #15 BYU hosting Arizona in an early B12 game. Alabama plays its first SEC game on the road against Will Stein’s new-look Kentucky. Notre Dame and SMU are also in action in their B/C non-conference games.

Saturday Evening: The primetime headliner of the week is #4 Texas hosting #1 Ohio St, even if a 12-team playoff means the loser still has a clear path to play for a Championship. #21 Iowa plays Iowa St in a game that is always hideously great. Georgia Tech could be a tough test for #18 Tennessee in Atlanta. Jamarcus Shephard continues a tough start at Oregon St against #13 Texas Tech. The After Dark slate includes #20 Utah vs. Arkansas and #14 USC vs. Louisiana.
