College Football Games Today: A Look at Saturday’s Packed Slate and Complete Week 2 TV Schedule

Week 2 of the 2026 college football season brings a pretty entertaining Saturday slate, with a bunch of meaningful games that will carry weight for these teams as the season carries on.

There are some big matchups between perennial powerhouses as teams look to dust off the tires and see what they actually have, along with some sneaky matchups that could have us on the edge of our seats until the very end.

College Football Games on Saturday, September 12

Oklahoma vs. Michigan — 12:00 p.m. ET, FOX

A week ago, Michigan looked like one of the more intriguing teams in the country. Now, suddenly, there are a lot more questions than answers in Ann Arbor.

The Wolverines needed a walk-off Hail Mary against Western Michigan, and even that ending came with plenty of controversy. A game that Michigan probably expected to control turned into a fight until the very last play, and Western Michigan had a legitimate chance to walk out with the win.

That changes the way you look at Michigan heading into this matchup.

Kyle Whittingham’s arrival was supposed to bring a renewed sense of optimism to the program, and there is still plenty of talent on the roster. But the quarterback situation has become the immediate storyline.

Bryce Underwood is now under a massive spotlight, while the possibility of Tommy Carr getting an opportunity adds another layer of uncertainty. Underwood underperformed in Week 1, throwing for just 170 yards on a 54.5% completion rate and posting a PFN CFB QB Impact Score of 71.5. That is not nearly good enough for Michigan to take that next step.

The problem is that Oklahoma is about as difficult a team as Michigan could ask for when trying to get its offense back on track.

Brent Venables has built his reputation around defense, and the Sooners have the kind of physicality and discipline that can make an unsettled offense look even worse. Oklahoma also appears to have more weapons offensively this season, while having a healthy John Mateer gives the Sooners another dynamic element to work with.

Michigan needs to look completely different from a week ago.

Arizona vs. BYU — 3:30 p.m. ET, FOX

This could end up being one of the more important games in the Big 12 race.

Arizona has the look of a potential sleeper, especially with the conference feeling a little more wide open after the latest developments surrounding Texas Tech and Brendan Sorsby. The Wildcats have the quarterback you want leading that kind of team in Noah Fifita, one of the more experienced quarterbacks in the country.

Experience at quarterback can go a long way in a conference where games tend to turn into shootouts.

Arizona’s defense has also been steady in recent seasons, giving the Wildcats a foundation to build around. If that unit can continue playing at a high level, Arizona has a legitimate chance to hang around the top of the Big 12 throughout the season.

BYU, on the other hand, looks like the next team in line behind Texas Tech in the conference pecking order.

The Cougars handled business in Week 1 and return many important pieces from last season. Sophomore quarterback Bear Bachmeier will look to build on his confidence as he continues growing into the offense, while running back LJ Martin gives BYU one of the better returning backs in the conference. Martin had the second-highest PFN CFB RB Impact Score in the 2025 season, and the Cougars are ready to let him loose after a quiet week that allowed him to stay fresh.

Martin brings a physical style that can change the way a defense has to approach the entire game.

BYU also brings back talent across all three levels of its defense, and that could ultimately be what separates the Cougars from other contenders.

This feels like a game between two teams that genuinely believe they can make a run at the Big 12 title. Whoever wins could look back at this one in November and realize just how important it was.

Memphis vs. Boise State — 6:00 p.m. ET, USA Network

If you’re looking for the sneaky good game of the day, this might be it.

Memphis is already 2-0 after starting its season in Week 0, and the Tigers picked up an impressive resume win against UNLV. New head coach Charles Huff appears to have the program buying into what he’s trying to build, and that matters when you’re trying to turn a Group of 6 contender into a team capable of making the College Football Playoff conversation interesting.

Then there is Boise State.

The Broncos might have one of the best losses anyone could have this season after taking Oregon down to the wire in Week 1.

Boise State didn’t look intimidated by the Ducks. The Broncos matched Oregon physically along both lines of scrimmage and stayed in the game until the final moments. That alone should tell you a lot about this team’s ceiling.

There are still concerns defensively. Dante Moore was able to move the ball through the air against Boise State, exposing some holes that better passing offenses will undoubtedly try to attack.

But Boise State also showed a bend-but-don’t-break mentality.

Offensively, the Broncos looked good behind veteran quarterback Maddux Madsen and a strong ground game. If they can clean up some of the defensive issues, this is a team that has every reason to believe it can compete for its conference and potentially play its way into the national conversation.

Memphis has momentum.

Boise State has proof that it can play with elite competition.

Something has to give.

Ohio State vs. Texas — 7:30 p.m. ET, ABC

This is the game everybody has been waiting for.

Two of the best teams in the country. Two programs with national championship expectations. And for the third consecutive season, Ohio State and Texas are set to meet on the field.

The Buckeyes have won the previous two meetings, but this Ohio State team looks different from last year’s version, particularly on defense.

Ohio State lost major pieces such as Arvell Reese, Caleb Downs, and Sonny Styles, so there were legitimate questions about how that side of the ball would look coming into the season.

The offense, though, still looks like a nightmare for opposing defenses.

Julian Sayin gives Ohio State a quarterback capable of running the offense at a high level, and Jeremiah Smith remains one of the most dangerous receivers in the country. Smith looked somehow even better in Week 1, although he did so against an inferior Ball State team, totaling 151 receiving yards with two touchdowns in only one half of play.

Add incoming freshman star Chris Henry Jr. as he continues adjusting to the college game, along with a running back-by-committee approach, and there is little reason to expect the Buckeyes’ offense to slow down much from where it was a year ago.

Texas is just as loaded, and this program is clearly in an all-in mode.

The Longhorns have added more firepower at receiver, including Cam Coleman, while Hollywood Smothers and Raleek Brown give the running game another dimension. All of those additions are there to help Arch Manning take the next step, and he showed plenty of promise in Week 1 against Texas State.

Defensively, the addition of Will Muschamp calling plays could end up being one of the more underrated moves Texas made.

The interesting part is how close this game feels.

Ohio State has won the last two meetings, but Texas gets to play this one at home. Last year’s matchup was a defensive battle that ended 14-7 in favor of the Buckeyes. It would be surprising if we saw another game quite that low-scoring.

There is simply too much talent on both sides.

If you’re looking for the game that has the feel of a College Football Playoff game before the playoff even arrives, this is it.

And with everything these two programs have invested in getting to this point, Saturday night should tell us a whole lot about which one is actually ready to take the next step.
