Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer struggled on Saturday as the No. 11-ranked Sooners tried to earn a road victory over the Michigan Wolverines.
Michigan defeated Oklahoma 17-10, and Mateer completed 17-of-33 passes for just 189 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception, while rushing 13 times for 45 yards. The college football world didn’t mince words while reacting to Mateer’s performance against the Wolverines.

The unranked Wolverines, who were coming off a controversial Hail Mary victory over Western Michigan, upset No. 11 Oklahoma.
After the loss, Mateer’s play was one of the main topics of conversation online, with much of the college football world roasting him.
“John Mateer and the NCAA would like to remind you that 98% of collegiate athletes go pro in something other than sports,” wrote CBS Sports’ Bud Elliott.
Fox college football analyst RJ Young wasn’t impressed by what he saw from Mateer at the “Big House” on Saturday.

“John Mateer is still broken. You told me he was fixed,” he wrote.
Mateer went through a lot of last season, including a broken thumb on his throwing hand. This season, he’s fully healthy, so there’s no excuse for his poor play.
“John Mateer is a bottom 5 QB in the SEC,” one fan wrote. “I’m tired of the big wigs telling me he’s good.”
This fan kept comments pretty tight when watching Mateer play against the Michigan defense: “John Mateer is in hell today.”
Another fan noted how much Mateer just didn’t seem comfortable on Saturday afternoon against the Wolverines.

“John mateer has zero pocket presence,” they wrote.
“John Mateer more like John Meh-teer,” another fan joked.
“Oklahoma used to have gods at Qb, and now they have ‘John Mateer,'” another user added.
Finally, one fan summed up their thoughts bluntly: “John Mateer is so bad.”
Michigan now goes to 2-0 this season, while Oklahoma falls to 1-1. Mateer and the Sooners’ offense will try to bounce back next week when Oklahoma faces New Mexico at home at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. After that, the Sooners face back-to-back brutal tests, with matchups against No. 2 Georgia on the road and No. 4 Texas at home.
