‘Im Not Mad at It’ — Justin Jefferson Makes Feelings Clear on Lane Kiffin’s LSU Being ‘Villains’ in CFB

LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin has recently been facing major backlash because he was keen to add former NFL players Zxavian Harris and Dae’Quan Wright to LSU’s roster. The SEC opposed the idea, filed a federal lawsuit and threatened serious sanctions against LSU.
The head coach eventually backed away from the idea, and LSU finalized its roster without the two players. However, the controversy has affected the program as a whole, with fans and analysts describing the Tigers as college football’s ultimate villains.
Justin Jefferson Embraces LSU’s Villain Era
During Friday’s edition of the “Up & Adams” show, host Kay Adams asked Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson whether he was comfortable with LSU embracing that reputation under Kiffin. He said:
“I’m not mad at it, honestly. That’s Lane, though. Anybody that knows Lane and knows how he carries himself, he is the villain. And that’s how he’s always been. I feel like it’s about time. We’re always the good guys. We’re always the guys that do everything right. I feel like it’s time for the bad guys to come out and show the guys what’s really up.”
Jefferson acknowledged the fact that the head coach never fails to create headlines, challenge traditional expectations or embrace criticism. This is one of the reasons LSU has attracted so much attention.
Despite the off-field controversy, Jefferson is optimistic about Kiffin leading the Tigers to a national championship in his first season in charge.
“They have a good chance to. Obviously, it’s the first time. New quarterback, new receivers, pretty much a new defense. So, it’s the first time that these guys are really coming together and building that team chemistry and that team bond. They put up 50 in the first showcase,” Jefferson said.
“It’s only going to get better and better as the year goes on. So, I’m excited for them. I’m excited about what I’ve seen. Hopefully, they bring it every single week, just like we’ve got to.”

LSU’s dominant victory over Clemson provided an impressive beginning to the Kiffin era, but maintaining that level of performance will be the real challenge. The Tigers will face stronger opposition as their schedule continues, particularly during SEC play. Jefferson understands that talent alone will not be enough to win a national championship. LSU must continue developing chemistry, avoiding costly mistakes and remaining focused despite the controversy surrounding the program. If Kiffin’s team can handle the pressure and perform consistently every week, the Tigers could prove that their villainous reputation is supported by championship-level football on the field throughout this season.
