Kirby Smart and Georgia football are still ranked No. 2 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll released Sunday Sept. 13.
The Bulldogs stayed put after its 70-20 beatdown of Western Kentucky Saturday in Sanford Stadium.
Texas jumped the Bulldogs going from No. 3 to No. 1 after rallying to beat then top-ranked Ohio State 24-23 Saturday night in Austin.
Ohio State fell to No. 6. No. 3 Notre Dame, No. 4 Indiana and No. 5 Miami (Fla.) out the top 5.
Georgia went from 7 first-place votes last week to 15 this week.
The Bulldogs were also No. 2 in the Associated Press poll last week. The new AP poll will be released later Sunday.
Georgia (2-0) has outscored its two opponents Western Kentucky and Tennessee State 123-33 this season.
"Started fast, and gotta keep improving," Smart said of his team which jumped to a 49-0 lead Saturday ."That was the theme of the week. I did think that we got to improve in a lot of areas, and then we had some guys finish the game kind of sloppy that showed they weren't quite ready. But the fact they got an opportunity to go out there, I think we played more people in the second half than we've ever played before."
