Purdue football has to contend with the crushing hangover of having a 2-0 start ripped out of the jaws of victory when Wake Forest knocked off Purdue at Ross-Ade 38-36 in double OT.
Barry Odom’s second season at Purdue looked like it’d be more of the same as Purdue trailed another power five school in the fourth quarter. But Ryan Browne charged upfield using his collection of playmakers to erase a ten point deficit, settling for a field goal late to send the game to overtime.
After Purdue scored a touchdown in the second overtime, it looked like Purdue was finally going to be able to get off the snide against power five school in years. Wake Forest was looking at a 4th and 15 with just a couple yards to convert a first down in front of the end zone.
Wake Forest would convert and then would run the ball in and then again for two points to get the victory over Purdue on the road.
Purdue’s football program looked momentarily to have all the momentum, sitting at 2-0, and heading into conference play feeling like a team that could compete for a bowl game.
Instead, Purdue will pull a 1-1 record from the cozy confines of the midwest all the way to the west coast where it awaits a road battle against a 2-0 UCLA Bruins team that has two impressive wins to start the season.
Thanks to our friends at FanDuel, you don’t have to just watch the game. You can bet on if Purdue can bounce back or if it’ll get bounced by a Bruins team looking to leave its first mark on the Big Ten.
