USC football freshmen tracker: How recruiting class fared vs Louisiana

Week 2 of the college football season was another example of how this year's USCTrojans team is fueled by freshmen. The Trojans' freshman class is each creating defined roles, and some are becoming the best players on the team.

Here is my breakdown of how each of the true freshmen for the Trojans fared in Week 3:

Jonas Williams, quarterback

Jonas Williams did not get much time to continue his development and showcase his skills. He finished the game just 1/1 for 8 yards. Although this performance did not show much, Jonas has shown enough to get a full-start opportunity against Rutgers to help Jayden Maiava get healthy.

Shahn Alston, running back

Shahn Alston also did not get as many reps, but still, with his 5 carries, he went for 34 yards. His average on the day was 6.8 yards per carry. Alston has definitely earned the trust to start the season, and if any backs have to miss time due to injury, Alston will perform well in relief.

Trent Mosley, receiver

Trent Mosley was a star for a 3rd straight week. Mosley scored 2 touchdowns on the day, one of them being an 83-yard punt return. It was only a matter of time before he took a punt return back for a touchdown. It was electric. He wasn't as dominant as a receiver, but with just his 2 catches, he had 33 yards and a touchdown. It is becoming a guarantee that Mosley will find the end zone every game.

Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, receiver

Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, for another week, was the 2nd-best weapon for the Trojans. Wyatt had 3 catches for 43 yards and a touchdown. His confidence has grown immensely, and he is a reliable weapon for Jayden Maiava. He, along with Mosley, has a star written all over him, and his production is finally backing that up.

Mark Bowman, tight end

Mark Bowman joined the party this past week. Bowman was the leading receiver for the Trojans, with his impressive stat line of 6 catches for 83 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bowman showed he is healthy and ready to be fully unlocked in the offense. The Trojans got their Brock Bowers against Louisiana.

Luke Wafle, defensive end

Luke Wafle was the best defensive player on the field for the Trojans. Wafle led the Trojans in tackles, and he was in the backfield consistently wreaking havoc. Wafle finished with 7 tackles, 6 solo, and 1 tackle for a loss. This game showed that things are coming together for Wafle.

Simote Katoanga, defensive end

Katoanga built off of last week's reps and was a little bit more productive. Katoanga finished the game with 2 tackles. His development this season will be huge for the future. In the meantime, Katoanga can be a productive defensive end in the rotation.
