There Are Some Big Changes In The New AP Poll

The newest AP Top 25 poll is here, and college football already looks completely different.

After pulling off an unbelievable 24-23 comeback victory over No. 1 Ohio State, Texas has officially jumped all the way to No. 1 in the country.

And it’s hard to argue against it.

The Longhorns trailed 23-3 entering the fourth quarter before Arch Manning helped lead a historic comeback. It was the largest fourth-quarter comeback ever in a victory over an AP No. 1 team.

Georgia stayed at No. 2, Notre Dame remained No. 3, defending national champion Indiana moved up to No. 4, and Miami climbed two spots to No. 5.

Then comes Ohio State.

The Buckeyes dropped all the way from No. 1 to No. 6 after blowing that 20-point lead against Texas. LSU moved up to No. 7, followed by Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Alabama to complete the top 10.

But the biggest collapse belongs to Oregon.

The Ducks entered the weekend ranked No. 6 and somehow lost 39-31 to Oklahoma State, a team that had lost 21 straight games against FBS opponents.

The voters absolutely punished them.

Oregon fell 15 spots to No. 21, its lowest ranking in four years. After struggling against Boise State in Week 1 and then losing to Oklahoma State, there are suddenly major questions about whether Oregon belongs anywhere near the national championship conversation.

Michigan, meanwhile, is somehow back.

After falling completely out of the rankings following its controversial win over Western Michigan, the Wolverines beat No. 11 Oklahoma 17-10 and jumped back in at No. 19.

Oklahoma paid the price, falling 13 spots to No. 24.

The SEC also completely dominates this poll.

The conference has nine ranked teams and six inside the top 10: Texas, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Alabama. That ties the SEC record for most top-10 teams in a single AP poll.

After only two weeks, the rankings are already getting chaotic.

Texas is No. 1. Ohio State is outside the top five. Oregon barely survived inside the Top 25. Michigan is back. And the SEC owns more than half of the top 10.

College football is already getting ridiculous.
