ACC Quarterback Possibly Sidelined for Upcoming No. 5 UM Matchup

MIAMI, Fla. – Clemson Tigers quarterback Christopher Vizzina reportedly suffered an elbow injury in his non-throwing arm (left) against Georgia Southern last Saturday and is considered week-to-week; potentially sidelined for the No. 5Miami Hurricanes matchup.

The 21-year-old senior appeared in three drives of the opening quarter. The last pass Vizzina threw was intercepted by safety Jakry Jones. Freshman Tait Reynolds took over the Tigers’ offense for the rest of the game. He completed 16 of 27 passes (59.3 percent) and threw for 178 yards, but no touchdowns. The Tigers still won 22-7, as junior kicker Nolan Hauser went five-for-five on field goal attempts.

According to ESPN insider Pete Thamel, head coach Dabo Swinney said that Vizzina “couldn’t feel his arm.”

The Hurricanes will travel to South Carolina in less than three weeks to face the Tigers, potentially without Vizzina under center. If Reynolds leads the offense, a rude awakening could be in order. The Tigers opened the 2026 college football season against No. 11 LSU Tigers, who completely outmatched them in a 51-10 outing.

Vizzina completed 10 of 16 passes (62.5 percent) and threw for 83 yards and an interception. When the game was out of reach, Reynolds absorbed extra snaps. He completed four of six passes (66.7 percent) and threw for 22 yards.

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are off to a dominant 2-0 (ACC 1-0) start to the season. They’ve won against Stanford and Florida A&M by an average margin of 54.5. The Hurricanes currently have the second-best scoring offense in the Football Bowl Subdivision and the defense has not allowed a touchdown.

Usually, when discussing the best programs in the Atlantic Coast Conference, Swinney and the Tigers belong in the conversation. In the previous 18 seasons, they have won nine ACC titles and two National Championships. The Hurricanes are just starting to catch up within the conference. As the lone ACC representative in the 2025 College Football Playoffs; there’s been a shift.

The Hurricanes were voted preseason favorites to win the ACC and quarterback Darian Mensah was voted ACC Preseason Player of the Year. As the Tigers’ dominance appears to be steadily declining, the Coral Gables program is looking to take advantage. The Hurricanes haven’t won the ACC since joining ahead of the 2004 college football season.

Mario Cristobal has successfully turned “The U” around and is looking to take things a step further. Meanwhile, Swinney could be on the cusp of being the next head coach let go.
