The University of Iowa Athletics Department has officially released its Week 3 depth chart as the Hawkeyes turn their full attention to this coming Saturday’s in-state game against the 1-1 Northern Iowa Panthers. Following a gritty Cy-Hawk performance against ISU, the coaching staff opted to keep the two-deep stable while they work behind the scenes to smooth out performance gaps before Big Ten play.

The best news for Hawkeye fans is on the injury front: despite leaving last weekend’s game late in the further quarter, starting running back Kamari Moulton remains locked in at the top of the rushing rotation and is tracking to play this weekend.

Kirk Ferentz stated after the game that he saw Moulton in the locker room and that he “seemed fine”. Moulton briefly spoke to reporters following the game and also explicitly stated that he was doing fine.

The OR quarterback situation will last at least one more week, as no definitive starter is listed between Hank Brown and Jeremy Hecklinski.

The much-discussed punt returner is also status quo. Reece Vander Zee remains the starter, with Zach Lutmer as the backup. Kirk Ferentz addressed this directly, stating that defensive back Zach Lutmer missed time during fall camp, prompting the coaching staff to manage his overall workload carefully. During a press conference ahead of the Week 2 game against Iowa State, Ferentz explained, “Lutmer would have been our guy last week at punt return, but he missed some time in camp. So, we wanted to be careful with his pitch count, not knowing how many plays he would get on defense.”

Depth Chart Notes

Brevin Doll wore #13 (a change from #23) in Saturday’s game and reportedly will the remainder of the season, however is still listed as #23 on the official depth chart below.

Positions listed with OR are ordered numerically. The starting defensive lineup will vary based on formation and personnel packages.
