Ranking Texas A&M's 10 remaining opponents from easiest to toughest

Week 2 was much more competitive than Week 1 around college football. Several upsets shook up the slate, while a few teams pulled off convincing wins despite not looking particularly sharp.
Texas A&M’s offense remains a work in progress, but it showed some encouraging signs in its 48-20 win over Arizona State. First, Terry Bussey is coming into his own and appears ready to play a major role in replacing the all-purpose production of first-round NFL draft pick KC Concepcion. Second, Isaiah Horton has established himself as a legitimate red-zone threat, providing a major boost in an area where the Aggies struggled last season.
On the opponent front, LSU and Alabama both overcame slow starts before pulling away for convincing victories. However, the game of the week came between Texas and Ohio State. After a lackluster first three quarters, the Longhorns capitalized on a Buckeyes team that grew conservative while protecting a 20-point fourth-quarter lead. Texas scored 21 unanswered points to complete a 24-23 comeback and move into the No. 1 spot in several major polls.
We learned a decent amount about Texas A&M’s future opponents this week, creating some movement throughout the list. Here is an updated ranking of the Aggies’ remaining opponents from easiest to most challenging heading into Week 3:
10. Texas A&M vs. Citadel – Week 7
2026 record: 1-2
Analysis: The Citadel followed its upset of Charlotte with a 26-20 double-overtime loss to Charleston Southern. The Bulldogs outgained their opponent 308-188 but failed to finish the game. The FCS-versus-SEC talent gap still makes this the easiest matchup remaining, especially at Kyle Field.
9. Texas A&M vs. Arkansas – Week 5
2026 record: 1-1
Analysis: Arkansas took a major step backward in a 43-10 loss at No. 20 Utah. The Razorbacks entered the season with plenty to prove under first-year coach Ryan Silverfield, and getting blown out in their first Power Four test did little to change that. Arkansas remains the least challenging SEC opponent left on A&M’s schedule.
8. Texas A&M vs. Kentucky – Week 3
2026 record: 1-1
Analysis: Kentucky showed some promise while building a 17-13 halftime lead against Alabama, but everything fell apart after the break. The Crimson Tide scored 32 unanswered points and handed the Wildcats a 45-17 loss. Kentucky has enough talent to keep Saturday’s game competitive early, but traveling to Kyle Field makes the challenge much tougher.
7. Texas A&M @ South Carolina – Week 10
2026 record: 2-0
Analysis: South Carolina improved to 2-0 with a 45-9 win over Towson, but the offense was far from perfect. LaNorris Sellers completed only 10 of 23 passes for 96 yards and an interception, although he added 119 rushing yards and a touchdown. Williams-Brice Stadium remains dangerous, but the Gamecocks still have questions to answer through the air.
6. Texas A&M @ Oklahoma – Week 12
2025 final record: 1-1
Analysis: Oklahoma suffered the biggest fall after managing only 10 points in a 17-10 loss at Michigan. The Sooners still have enough talent to be dangerous, and a late-November trip to Norman will not be easy. However, their offense looked much less threatening against Power Four competition than it did during the opening-week rout of UTEP.
5. Texas A&M @ Missouri – Week 6
2026 record: 2-0
Analysis: Missouri strengthened its position with a 38-21 road victory over Kansas in the Border War. The Tigers have now scored at least 38 points in both games and continue to look like one of the SEC’s more consistent programs. Facing them on the road pushes this matchup ahead of Oklahoma and South Carolina.
4. Texas A&M vs. Tennessee – Week 11
2026 record: 2-0
Analysis: Tennessee followed its opening-week blowout with a convincing 45-24 road win over Georgia Tech. Freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon now has two strong performances to begin his career, and Josh Heupel’s offense continues to look dangerous. Having this game at Kyle Field keeps it below the three toughest matchups.
3. Texas A&M @ Alabama – Week 8
2026 record: 2-0
Analysis: Alabama erased a 17-13 halftime deficit by scoring 32 unanswered points in a 45-17 victory at Kentucky. The Crimson Tide have now won their first two games by a combined 66 points, and a trip to Tuscaloosa remains one of A&M’s most difficult assignments of the season.
2. Texas A&M @ LSU – Week 4
2026 record: 2-0
Analysis: LSU followed its statement win over Clemson with a 45-14 victory over Louisiana Tech. The Tigers were not facing the same level of competition, but they handled business and continued producing at a high level offensively. A&M’s first road game coming at night in Death Valley makes this an extremely difficult early-season test.
1. Texas A&M vs. Texas – Week 13
2026 record: 2-0
Analysis: Texas remains No. 1 after rallying to defeat top-ranked Ohio State 24-23. The Longhorns were pushed much harder than they were in Week 1, but finding a way to beat the nation’s No. 1 team only strengthened their case. The rivalry returns to Kyle Field, but Texas stays here until A&M proves it can get over the hump.
