Iowa football offers 4-star Kansas City TE Israel Johnigan

It was a wild Saturday night at Kinnick Stadium.

Iowa won a thrilling Cy-Hawk game over rival Iowa State. Second-year kicker Caden Buhr booted the game-winning field goal with 15 seconds left to play.

In the process, the Hawkeyes impressed plenty of elite recruits who were in attendance. That includes 2028 four-star tight end Israel Johnigan.

Johnigan was inside Kinnick for a game day visit on Saturday. He entered Iowa City without an official offer from Kirk Ferentz and Co. He left with an offer, sharing the details on social media.

The 6-foot-4 tight end is from Kansas City, Mo., and Center High School. Johnigan is ranked as the 181st prospect nationally in the 2028 class, per 247Sports. The KCMO product is also ranked as the No. 9 tight end and as the No. 2 player in the Show-Me State per 247Sports.

Johnigan also holds offers from schools such as Arizona, Arizona State, Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn State, Wisconsin and Northwestern.

Across the first two games of his junior season, Johnigan has eight receptions for 142 yards and two touchdowns. He leads Center in all three of those categories. As a sophomore, he had 13 receptions for 213 yards and four touchdowns.

The Hawkeyes are getting in early on the fast-rising tight end. With their lineage of great tight end play and developmental system, Iowa is going to have a real chance to land a commitment from Johnigan.
