USC's next opponent might be the worst Power Four team in America

USC football visits Rutgers this coming weekend in the Trojans' 2026 Big Ten opener. Rutgers just might be the worst Power Four conference team in the country in light of what has already happened this season.

Is there another Power Four team which has a loss as bad as Rutgers' blowout loss at home versus annual doormat UMass? Rutgers was favored by 30 points in that game and lost by more than two touchdowns. Rutgers then lost to Boston College this past Friday night. Boston College lost to Cincinnati in Week 1 and was missing arguably its most important offensive player, as College Sports Wire reported this past July:

"Coach Bill O'Brien told ESPN's Pete Thamel that sophomore tight end Kaelan Chudzinski will miss the entire 2026 season with an Achilles injury. O'Brien said Chudzinski will be back in January and joked, If you asked him, he’d tell you he’s not out for the season. Chudzinski was one of the better tight ends in the ACC last year as a true freshman. Playing in 12 games, he caught 24 passes for 313 yards and four touchdowns, earning Freshman All-American honors from several publications as a result.

"Losing Chudzinski is a major blow for the Eagles. With its top-three receivers moving on, he was the most proven weapon in the passing game for a Boston College team that also has a new quarterback. The passing offense was decently productive last year despite a revolving door at signal-caller, but now, the Eagles turn to Division II transfer Mason McKenzie. Chudzinski would have been a nice safety blanket, but BC will now have to look for receiving production elsewhere."

Rutgers-Boston College might have been a battle for the dubious distinction of worst Power Four team. Rutgers lost. USC should absolutely throttle the Scarlet Knights in New Jersey.
