With Week 2 in the books, we’ve now gotten a chance to see every ACC team play twice. While there’s still plenty of season left and plenty of chances for teams to change their seasons for better or worse, we now have more data points to judge teams on. With another weekend in the books, let’s check in on how the ACC is shaping up with our power rankings.
1. Miami (2-0, 1-0 ACC)
Last Week: Beat Florida A&M 77-7
It was only an FCS team, but the ACC favorite Hurricanes racked up over 800 yards of offense over the weekend.
This Week: Friday at Wake Forest
2. SMU (2-0, 1-0 ACC)
Last Week: Beat UC Davis 56-10
The Mustangs also handled FCS opposition in their last game, but they have one of the more interesting matchups this coming week.
This Week: Saturday at Louisville
3. Virginia (2-0, 1-0 ACC)
Last Week: Beat Norfolk State 59-3
It was “easily handle business against the FCS” week atop the conference.
This Week: Saturday vs. West Virginia
4. Louisville (1-1)
Last Week: Beat Villanova 59-13
The Cardinals fully bounced back after their season-opening loss to Ole Miss.
This Week: Saturday vs. SMU
5. Virginia Tech (2-0)
Last Week: Beat Old Dominion 44-21
They committed a couple of turnovers and allowed more offense than you might like, but the Hokies were never in any real trouble against ODU.
This Week: Saturday at Maryland
6. Duke (2-0)
Last Week: Beat Illinois 31-27
For all the money and hype the Big Ten has, the ACC went 3-0 against them this week… just don’t check who the opponents were.
This Week: Saturday vs. Stanford
7. Wake Forest (2-0)
Last Week: Beat Purdue 38-36 (OT)
Wake was one of the other teams to take down B1G opposition.
This Week: Friday vs. Miami
8. Pitt (2-0)
Last Week: Beat UCF 12-7
At one point in Saturday’s game, Pitt led UCF 5-0, which is always fun to see.
This Week: Thursday vs. Syracuse
9. North Carolina (2-0)
Last Week: Beat East Tennessee State 35-3
I wish the Heels had blown ETSU out a little more, but you can’t complain too much about a 30+ point win.
This Week: Saturday at Clemson
10. NC State (1-1, 0-1 ACC)
Last Week: Beat Richmond 73-0
They dropped an egg against Virginia in Week 0, but putting up 70 is a pretty good reply.
This Week: Saturday at Vanderbilt
11. Florida State (1-1, 0-1 ACC)
Last Week: Bye
FSU got an off week after playing in Weeks 0 and 1.
This Week: Saturday at Alabama
12. Clemson (1-1)
Last Week: Beat Georgia Southern 22-7
I’m fully expecting the Tigers to still beat UNC this week, but there’s no evidence you can point to this season so far to support that belief.
This Week: Saturday vs. UNC
13. Cal (1-1, 1-0 ACC)
Last Week: Beat Syracuse 21-18
It wasn’t a particularly inspiring performance, but a conference win is a conference win, and Cal’s got one.
This Week: Saturday vs. Wagner
14. Georgia Tech (0-2)
Last Week: Lost to Tennessee 45-24
Both of their losses are to power conference teams, and I think they’ll end the season way higher that this, but there’s only so much you can do with an 0-2 record, rankings wise.
15. Boston College (1-1)
Last Week: Beat Rutgers 28-21
BC was the last of the ACC team to beat a B1G one, but Rutgers may very well end up being the worst power conference team in the country.
This Week: Saturday vs. Maine
16. Syracuse (1-1, 0-1 ACC)
Last Week: Lost to Cal 21-18
Can’t be throwing three interceptions in a home game against another likely meh team.
This Week: Thursday at Pitt
17. Stanford (1-1, 0-1 ACC)
Last Week: Bye
Stanford didn’t get a chance to improve their mark last week, although they do have a couple chances coming up.
This Week: Saturday at Duke
