The Utah Utes football program will wrap up non-conference play at home this weekend with Utah State. When Morgan Scalley's team does move on to open Big 12 play, the first game will be nationally televised.

The Utes will hit the road to face the Iowa State Cyclones at Jack Trice Stadium on Sept. 26 at 3:30 p.m. ET on FOX. The broadcast and game time were announced by the conference on Monday.

No. 17 Utah (2-0) took care of Idaho and Arkansas during the initial weeks of the season. The rare non-conference schedule put them at home four of the first five weeks to start the season. The Utes make the trip to Ames for the first time since 2010.

Both teams are set to meet for the seventh time in history and second time as members of the Big 12 Conference. Iowa State won the first meeting between the two schools as members of the Big 12, with the Cyclones coming away with a 31-28 win at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Nov. 23, 2024.

As for Iowa State (1-1), the start to the season was tough due to a rivalry game. The Cyclones' bitter rival Iowa pulled off a 16-13 win last weekend. This came after a season-opening win over Southeast Missouri.

Iowa State is still picking up the pieces after losing head coach Matt Campbell and most of the roster to Penn State. Jimmy Rogers has done what he could as a first-year head coach, who experienced a massive turnover. Being able to compete without resources while rebuilding has been ISU football's offseason story.

By comparison, Utah's transition of power was prepared for a year in advance and was less abrupt. Morgan Scalley knew he would be tapped in at some point. The start to his first year has been outstanding due to being the coach-in-waiting.

After Iowa State, the Utes will take a much-needed bye week before hosting Kansas and going over the mountains to face Deion Sanders and Colorado in Boulder. There's a real possibility Utah could be undefeated for the Nov. 7 matchup with BYU.

If the Cougars pull out a win over Notre Dame, they will likely be as well. If so, this year's Holy War could get the national attention the rivalry deserves. It would likely be a game that decides who moves on to the Big 12 championship game. There's also a scenario where BYU and Utah rematch for a conference title. Buckle up. It's going to be a wild ride.
