Iyanna “Yaya” Mayweather has been ordered to pay more than $50 million to Lapattra Jacobs over the 2020 stabbing that followed a confrontation involving rapper NBA YoungBoy.
A Harris County, Texas, judge awarded Jacobs a total of $50,105,000 in damages, bringing a years-long legal dispute tied to the incident back into the spotlight.
TMZ reported Sept. 14 that the judgment includes $40,105,000 in compensatory damages and another $10 million in exemplary damages. The compensatory award covers both past and projected future losses connected to medical expenses, pain and suffering, physical impairment, lost earning capacity and disfigurement.
Court findings cited in the reporting state that Mayweather’s conduct involved an “extreme degree of risk” and constituted aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon. The court also found Mayweather responsible for the full amount of the damages.
The civil judgment stems from an April 2020 confrontation at a home in the Houston area where NBA YoungBoy was present. Police said Mayweather and Jacobs became involved in an argument that escalated, with Mayweather using two knives and stabbing Jacobs in the arm. Jacobs was taken to a hospital and underwent surgery.
Mayweather, the daughter of boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She later pleaded guilty in 2022 and received six years of probation through deferred adjudication. That criminal proceeding is separate from the newly reported civil judgment.
Jacobs’ civil lawsuit focused on the long-term consequences of the injuries. She alleged that the attack left her with permanent impairment and loss of function in her arm, along with medical expenses and other physical and financial damages.
NBA YoungBoy was initially named in the civil litigation, but claims against him did not proceed to trial, according to TMZ’s report. The latest judgment places the financial responsibility on Mayweather.
The size of the award is particularly striking because the underlying criminal case had already been resolved years earlier. The civil proceeding allowed Jacobs to pursue compensation for the lasting effects of the injuries independently of Mayweather’s criminal sentence.
The ruling also closes another chapter in a case that has remained connected to the rapper’s personal life long after the original confrontation. Mayweather and NBA YoungBoy share a son, Kentrell Gaulden Jr., who was born in 2021.
The $50.1 million judgment now shifts the focus from the criminal case to the financial consequences of the attack, with the court’s findings establishing the basis for the substantial damages awarded to Jacobs.
