2028 4-star TE Connor Arant commits to Oklahoma

Bixby (Okla.) four-star Connor Arant, one of the top tight end prospects in the 2028 cycle, has committed to the Oklahoma Sooners, becoming the latest local blue-chipper to opt for the SEC program.

Arant chose head coach Brent Venables, tight ends coach Jason Witten and the Oklahoma staff over a wave of other offers, including the likes of Ohio State, Texas Tech, Alabama, Nebraska, Texas A&M and Tennessee.

He is the No. 315 overall prospect and No. 15 TE in the 2028 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 3 junior in Oklahoma.

Arant’s decision isn’t much of a surprise. Last month, he told Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman that OU was setting the pace in his recruitment. He’s considered the Sooners for some time and the addition of Witten to the staff was big.

“Everybody I have met at Oklahoma is a great person,” Arant said. “They have a great team and staff there, and it is a huge blessing to have an opportunity for them. Just the idea of playing for a future Hall of Famer is really appealing, along with Coach Venables, who has been around the game for a long time and is one of the best coaches out there.”

Not only has the 6-foot-5, 225-pounder been on campus plenty, but he’s teammates with senior four-star offensive tackle and fellow OU pledge Kaeden Penny, the No. 3 OT in the 2027 cycle. The Sooners have done a tremendous job keeping local talent from leaving state lines at the next level across the last couple of cycles.

Arant is both a tight end and a defensive lineman at the high school level. As a sophomore last fall, he caught six touchdowns and finished with 23 total tackles. He’s got one score and 12 tackles to his name early on as a junior.

He now becomes Oklahoma’s second commitment in the 2028 cycle, flanking Colts Neck (N.J.) Bergen Catholic four-star quarterback Trey Tagliaferri, the nation’s No. 13 junior passer. Tagliaferri committed at the beginning of July right after a short-lived pledge to Notre Dame.

Looking at the 2027 cycle, Oklahoma has the No. 7 class nationally, according to the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. That class features Boyle County (Ky.) five-star TE Seneca Driver, the No. 1 recruit at the position per the Rivals300.
