What Georgia coach Kirby Smart said about Arkansas

The No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs (2-0, 0-0 SEC) play the Arkansas Razorbacks (1-1, 0-0 SEC) in what will be Georgia's first road game of the season and the SEC opener for both teams. Georgia has the highest scoring offense in the country and is looking to keep things rolling.
The Bulldogs accumulated 133 total points in their first two games (a 63-3 win over Tennessee State and a 70-20 win over Western Kentucky). Georgia faces an Arkansas team that went 2-10 last season and has not won an SEC game since 2024. The Razorbacks are coming off a humiliating 43-10 road loss to the Utah Utes.
Georgia coach Kirby Smart spoke with the media before Georgia's game at Arkansas on Saturday, Sept. 19 at noon ET.
Georgia's first road game
"We're on to Arkansas, playing on the road in the SEC," Smart said. "Humility is always a week away. It's a tough environment for regardless of where you play in the SEC. There are no bad environments in the SEC. There are only raucous environments in the SEC.
"They're really tough to play in. Tougher earlier in the year than later, as they go along, they get harder and harder. This is a challenging time to go on the road, especially with a group that you really haven't been on the road with yet."
Georgia has not played in a road game since playing at Mississippi State on Nov. 8, 2025. Georgia senior quarterback Gunner Stockton is experienced, but he's only started three true road games in his career.
On Arkansas quarterback KJ Jackson
"Very accurate passer," Smart said. "He throws a great ball. Anticipates timing of throws. He's got a really strong, live arm. He gets the ball out there.
"He's a good athlete. He's got size that makes him hard to tackle, but he eludes and scrambles and makes some plays. A lot of respect for him."
On Arkansas' short week
Arkansas had a 10:15 p.m. ET kickoff on Saturday at Utah and was expected to return to campus at around 7 a.m. ET on Sunday. The Razorbacks now have to play one of the best teams in the country at noon ET following a short week of rest.
"I wouldn't like it either, just a tough situation to be in," Smart said. The late kickoff time followed by the early kickoff time drew public criticism from Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek during the offseason.
