After one of his best performances of the season, Longhorns star Trevor Goosby is adding to his trophy case. On Tuesday, Goosby was named the Outland Trophy's National Player of the Week. It was his first career weekly national honor from the Outland Trophy.
As Texas shocked Ohio State by coming back from a 20-3 deficit, Goosby made life difficult for the Ohio State defense while protecting Arch Manning. The Texas native was the top-graded offensive lineman and allowed no sacks. He also allowed only one pressure on 46 pass blocks. With Goosby playing at an elite level, the Longhorns offense manufactured three consecutive touchdown drives to end the game.
Trevor Goosby showed why he's a future top-10 pick on Saturday…
"We all know he's a very good pass protector, but his ability to block the run game and do it with confidence…that kind of permeates throughout that offensive line"

Although Goosby was impressive from the first whistle, his best play came in clutch moments. In the fourth quarter, the Melissa High product and the offensive line helped the Longhorns compile 150 yards of total offense. During that stretch, Texas outgained the Buckeyes 150-52. That helped Texas make history as they became the only team in the past 15 years to close a victory with three straight touchdown drives of 12 or more plays.
For Goosby, this marks the second time in the last few months he has been connected to the Outland Trophy. The talented senior earned a spot on the award's preseason watch list on Aug. 4. He has backed that honor up with a stellar start against some of the nation's best players.

In just a few weeks, Goosby will have a clearer idea of where he stands in the Outland Trophy race. The semifinalists will be revealed on Nov. 18, and those players will then be paired down to three finalists, announced on Nov. 24. Less than a month later, the winner will be announced on December 11th. The Longhorns and Goosby hope that they will have a reason to celebrate when the winner is revealed.
