HUSKERS FOOTBALL Set To Renew Hostilities Against Notre Dame in 2032-2033

Well, call me Nostradamus, but this didn’t take long at all.

And, honestly, the Huskers have already been on it well into the future, but with the schedules for ‘26 and ‘27 currently light on non-conference strength of the Power 4 variety, opponents have crowed about Nebraska dropping Tennessee from their 2026 and 2027 non-conference schedules and replacing them with Bowling Green and Northern Iowa.

But first today’s big news.

The Athletic Department has announced the Huskers have added Notre Dame to their 2032 and 2033 schedules for a home-and-home matchup which will mark just over three decades between games as it will be the teams’ first meetings since 2000 and 2001 when the Huskers swept the Irish taking both contests.

Both games are scheduled as unusual late October matchups meeting first in Memorial Stadium on Oct. 30, 2032, then making the trip to South Bend for the second tilt in Notre Dame Stadium on Oct. 29, 2033.

“The series with Notre Dame is the type of matchup that college football fans circle on their calendars years in advance,” Nebraska Director of Athletics Troy Dannen said. “Our fans have a tremendous appreciation for the history of college football and iconic venues.  We are excited to welcome Notre Dame and their fans to Lincoln in 2032, and I know our fans will travel to South Bend in full force in 2033.”

The Huskers were pilloried by some, especially Tennessee AD Danny White, for dropping the games against the Vols. Dannen remarked about the need financially for 8 home games in 2027 due to the lack of seats which will be available because of the stadium reconstruction, which has already begun, but will wait until the end of the 2026 season to tear down South Stadium.

I had surmised recently in our predictions column that we had also seen some Big 10 opponents dropping P4 games perhaps due to SEC reluctance to add a 9th conference game to their schedule as the Big 10 had done a few years back to toughen schedules for CFP selection time. Did this play into it? Maybe, maybe not, but Dannen probably did take a little pleasure in it for that reason.

The SEC has since added another conference game and, honestly, Nebraska’s non-con schedule for ‘28 and beyond was already pretty solid. The 2033 game with Irish plugs the only hole through 2035 previously without a Power 4 opponent.

As a matter of fact, 2033 now has TWO P4 foes on the ledger as they were already scheduled to play the Big 12’s Cincinnati Bearcats again. We’ll wait a few years down the road to chat about the potential pitfalls of doing that as well as playing one of them in the middle of the Big 10 conference schedule.

Here’s the complete list of future P4 foes – feel free to copy and paste or otherwise refer to it when slapping down your enemies who are still yapping about the Huskers dropping Tennessee. If one of them is Danny White, so much the better.
