How the CFP format has changed in 2025
The CFP format has changed in 2025. The teams ranked in the top four will now earn automatic byes. That’s a change from 2024 when the four byes were reserved for the four highest-ranked conference champions.
The 12-team field will still consist of the five highest-ranked conference champions and the next seven highest-ranked teams.
The first round will be be played at college campuses, with the teams ranked No. 5, No. 6, No. 7 and No. 8 hosting the bottom four teams.
