After coming into 2026 as a popular national championship pick, the start of the season hasn't been great for the Oregon Ducks.

While a turnaround is certainly still possible, Oregon's path to the College Football Playoff has become much more difficult after narrowly escaping Boise State, then allowing Oklahoma State to score 39 points in an upset loss.

As it turns out, an issue with star quarterback Dante Moore's pre-snap stances may have been helping out his opponents — something Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris confirmed on Tuesday.

Here's how Morris said the Cowboys were getting a read on Oregon's play calls due to Moore's tips.

After Oregon was upset by Oklahoma State this past weekend, multiple college football analysts, including Andrew Nemec and Landon Tengwall, discovered that Moore may be tipping to opponents whether a run or pass play is coming.

As Tengwall broke down, Moore's pre-snap stance became a "tell." During pass plays, the quarterback's feet were far more staggered, with his right foot back further. During run plays, the stagger was far less noticable.

College football analysts were not the only ones to notice the trend with Moore, though. On Tuesday, during an interview with CBS Sports, Morris addressed Moore's "tips" and acknowledged that a member of Oklahoma State's coaching staff noticed the same.

"I think it was our linebackers [who noticed]," Morris said. "Coaches are always paranoid. We're paranoid about, 'Are we getting our signals stolen? Are we tipping something off by a stance, an offensive lineman [or] a quarterback stance? We always live in a state of paranoia."

"Those things help a little bit, but execution is still the most important thing in this game."

It doesn't just seem to be Moore who had a "tipping" issue, either. According to Ducks Sports Central, Oklahoma State linebacker Tate Romney also said Oregon's offensive line was tipping run/pass plays.

“We were noticing earlier in the week that their (Oregon’s) offensive line had tendencies that helped us key into run (or) pass and a couple areas we could take advantage of,” Romney said, per Ducks Sports Central. "Obviously our defensive line was keyed into that. That was one big thing that gave us a big advantage.”

"Just their offensive line had a few stance indicators for most of the time run/pass."

Of course, Oregon's troubles haven't all been on the offensive side of the ball. Moore has still posted good numbers (569 yards, 5 TDs) to start the season, but the Ducks' defense has struggled in both games.

Dan Lanning appears to have something to work on in film sessions, however, as Oregon looks to bounce back from its stunning loss.
