Oregon's Schedule Could Help Chances Of Making CFP, But There's One Issue

It's almost crazy to think that Oregon entered the season as one of the top teams in America and has played the type of football it has to start the season. 

At 1-1, with a rough, average win against Boise State and an eight-point loss against an Oklahoma State team that has been one of the worst Power Four teams in America over the past few years, there's really no telling how much worse things can get.

I'm personally of the belief that Oregon is ultimately going to be more than fine and will eventually win games at the level we all know it can. 

If there's one positive for Oregon, it's the fact that it doesn't play Indiana and some others in the Big Ten. Oregon also won't play Penn State, but it will take on No. 12 USC, No. 6 Ohio State, and No. 19 Michigan. Things aren’t easy, but they could be worse.

I'd go as far as to say that because of this Oklahoma State loss, if Oregon were to lose another game, it would probably be on the outside looking in come College Football Playoff time. 

If it beat Michigan and Ohio State but maybe dropped a game to USC or another team, I could see it still getting in. 

There's a lot that ultimately has to be figured out, but ESPN doesn't really think that Oregon is in a good spot to make the College Football Playoff as of now, recently ranking it 18th overall in the country.

“It's hard to know where to begin with the Ducks after their shocking and historic 39-31 loss at Oklahoma State. They've come up short against eventual champs Ohio State and Indiana, but never against an unranked opponent in the Dan Lanning era. Oregon struggled to find any semblance of an offensive rhythm and has much to address. 

“Sure, the Ducks were missing star tight end Jamari Johnson and lost running back Jordon Davison to an injury, but it was stunning to watch Oregon get outworked in the trenches. Dante Moore wasn't seeing things like usual in a 14-of-29 day through the air, the Ducks ran for only 90 yards and went 5-of-14 on third down. First-year OC Drew Mehringer and his unit have a lot to prove going forward,” Max Olson of ESPN wrote.

After the first two weeks of the season, I don't think it's unfair to put Oregon at No. 18. I still believe this is a top-10 team in America and that it's eventually going to figure things out, but if there's one thing for certain, the college football season does not leave it much wiggle room. 

The Ducks didn't play well and are now facing the pressure that comes with it.
