With Baylor football star quarterback DJ Lagway dealing with an ankle injury, it has put his availability for Week 3 against Louisiana Tech in question, with fans wondering if he’ll make an appearance. While it has been revealed that Lagway won’t play for the Baylor football program this Saturday, it is for sure possible that the Colorado Buffaloes and head coach Deion Sanders will see the quarterback for the Big 12 opener the weekend after.

According to college football insider Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, Lagway is “on track to return” against the Buffaloes on Saturday, Sept. 26.

“While Baylor QB DJ Lagway isn’t expected to play this weekend against Louisiana Tech, sources tell [On3 Sports],” Nakos wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “He is on track to return next week in the Big 12 opener against Colorado.”

Lagway would suffer the ankle sprain in the opener against Auburn, which the Bears lost 17-16, as he proceeded to miss Week 2’s dominant 44-3 win over Prairie View. It would get clearer as the days went on that Lagway was going to miss Saturday’s contest against Louisiana Tech.

Important for DJ Lagway to return in conference play for Baylor football

The idea for Lagway to make a return for the Baylor football team against the Colorado Buffaloes in the Big 12 opener could’ve been predicted. Last week’s report from Nakos spoke about how Lagway wanted to fight through the injury, but it seemed that the team thought it was best for the junior quarterback to heal up with conference play starting next weekend.

“Sources tell On3 that quarterback DJ Lagway suffered a high-ankle sprain in the loss to Auburn. Baylor head coach Dave Aranda said earlier this week that the quarterback is day-to-day, and a source told On3 later in the week that Lagway has been trying to fight through it. Sources have said the quarterback is viewed as doubtful against Prairie View A&M, especially with Big 12 play starting in two weeks against Colorado.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen when Lagway returns for the Bears as the team looks to keep the ship afloat this Saturday.
