LSU vs Oklahoma Prediction: Can the Sooners Lock Down The CFP?
NCAAF College Football News, Photos, Stats, Scores, Schedule & Videos...
You know all of those ridiculously whiny (insert any insecure entity here) vs The World signs, t-shirts, and slogan things? Well, Oklahoma, go ahead and use them all this weekend, because that all applies to you in a very big way.
The Sooners are 9-2 and No. 8 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. However, lose to LSU, and bu-bye.
No. 11 BYU and No. 12 Miami are all desperate for someone in the lower part of the top ten to biff, and even Notre Dame (9) and Alabama (10) could exhale a bit with an OU loss.
But win, Sooners, and you’re in the tournament.
At 7-4, LSU is on to a bowl game and, maybe, expecting an arrival from the Lane train, but getting a win over Oklahoma to screw up the CFP dreams would be a season-maker in a lost year.

Why LSU Will Win
All the pressure in the world is on Oklahoma. It’s at the finish line, all it has to do is win, and all LSU has to do it play loose, and have fun, and try to play the villain.
The Tigers might be struggling a bit overall, but it’s one a two-game winning streak with a defense that continues to be decent enough to hang around.
There’s a lot of bending without a ton of breaking – this bunch is amazing in the red zone – the pass rush is great, and all of the pressure is forcing mistakes. The Tigers are picking off passes by the bucket.
Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer might be getting the job done, but it’s not like he’s winging it around the yard. The two touchdown passes thrown against Missouri market the first time all year he threw multiple scoring throws against an FBS team. However …
Why Oklahoma Will Win
The Sooners are missing Garrett Nussmeier. Banged up, he’s almost certainly out, and talent Michael Van Buren is in.
The former Mississippi State baller can run a bit, and he threw for over 200 yards in each of the last two games, but he doesn’t have the next-level upside – at least, at the moment – of Nussmeier.
And now he has to deal with one of the best defensive lines in America.
The Sooners lead the nation in sacks and tackles for loss, and this LSU offense stalls at the slightest hint of adversity.
The Tigers have yet to score more than 25 points this season against an FBS team. To be simple about this, LSU doesn’t win if it gives up 20 points, but …
LSU vs Oklahoma Prediction, Betting Lines
This is a dangerous curveball for the Sooners.
They’re far better than LSU, but this will be a low scoring game that comes down to field position, mistakes, and something quirky. That worked just fine in the wins over Missouri and Alabama, but the LSU defense really can bog things down.
There can’t be a slew of mistakes, penalties, and missed opportunities, and the longer this goes, the more the pressure will be on.
Oklahoma will get out alive, but it’ll have earned it.
