Sam Leavitt injury status takes expected turn after perceived Lane Kiffin roster theatrics

The LSU football team officially listed starting quarterback Sam Leavitt as doubtful to play this weekend against Ole Miss.
While Leavitt carried the doubtful designation on the SEC’s availability report, the Rebels didn’t appear to buy the news that the Tigers quarterback might not play. LSU head coach Lane Kiffin was immediately accused of trying to deceive his former team, but that smokescreen might already be over.
On Thursday afternoon, college football reporter Matt Moscona provided a telling update on the quarterback.

Leavitt returns to practice
Moscona revealed Leavitt struggled with back spasms this week, which led to his absence from practice and the “doubtful” designation. However, the starting quarterback returned to practice on Thursday, signaling a change in his status for Saturday night’s game.
ESPN senior writer Pete Thamel previously reported the Rebels’ skepticism about Leavitt potentially missing the game on Saturday night.
“No one on the Ole Miss staff is convinced LSU QB Sam Leavitt’s appearance as ‘doubtful’ on the injury report is sincere and he’ll miss the game on Saturday,” he said on social media.
Sam Leavitt’s performance unsteady with LSU
The former Arizona State quarterback was a coveted transfer in the offseason. However, that hasn’t exactly translated to quality play on the field. While LSU sits at 2-0 on the season with two blowout victories, Leavitt has already thrown four interceptions in his first two games with the Tigers.
He’s completing just a shade over 62% of his passes for 574 yards through the air with two touchdowns against those four interceptions. He’s made up for it on the ground, though, with 135 yards and five touchdowns.
