Steve Belichick’s wife Jen issues statement on UNC departure: ‘misinformation and speculation’

One of the more puzzling college football stories has centered around the off-field activities involving the North Carolina Tar Heels program. An ongoing probe into the college football program has already resulted in its general manager resigning.
On Thursday, another key figure stepped down. Steve Belichick, who had been on medical leave since Aug. 6, has resigned from his position as defensive coordinator. With rumors swirling about potential findings from the probe, his resignation has led to plenty of speculation about the program.

Jen Belichick releases statement to ESPN
Field Yates of ESPN shared an official statement from Jen Belichick on social media:
“We are grateful for our time and our opportunity in Chapel Hill, and we are very proud of our influence on the positive direction of the program. Our priority will always be to show up with a healthy and strong mind for ourselves and our 5 children. We are humbled by the relationships that have been fostered here in North Carolina and would like to thank each and every person that has positively impacted our experience,” Jen Belichick said.
“Unfortunately there is misinformation and speculation about our own situation, but we believe prioritizing health as the most important thing you can do in this life and is invaluable compared to anything else. We strongly encourage anyone in need of support to utilize their resources in order to achieve the best version of themselves. We will always be Uncle Brian and Pop’s biggest supporters and have no doubt that the UNC defense is prepared to ball out. GO HEELS.”

Ongoing investigation at UNC
The resignation comes weeks after a bombshell report revealed some of the details surrounding the investigation. Allegations involving drug use, sexual misconduct and recruiting violations were among the most concerning.
It has also been speculated that head coach Bill Belichick’s job could be in jeopardy. Details in his contract reportedly make him responsible for every aspect of the college football program at UNC.
Any violations or improper workplace findings could result in his dismissal with cause. To be clear, this is currently speculation as the investigation unfolds. No concrete evidence has emerged indicating Belichick’s involvement.
As speculation about the program grows, 2-0 UNC still has a college football game to play. The Tar Heels will face ACC foe Clemson in a noon kickoff on Saturday.
Belichick seems to have the program trending in the right direction on the field after upsetting TCU in Week 0. Will these off-field concerns negatively impact the team’s hopeful start to the season?
