A top Alabama football assistant is a finalist for a college football head coaching job.

Alabama co-offensive coordinator, assistant head coach and wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard is one of two finalists for the head coaching job at Oregon State, according to a report from The Oregonian. Shephard is a finalist along with Montana State coach Brent Vigen.

Shephard followed coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama after working as DeBoer’s assistant head coach, pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach for two seasons at Washington in 2022-23. Shephard was hired at Washington after five seasons at Purdue.

Shephard has also worked at Washington State and Western Kentucky.

The Oregon State job would be Shephard’s first head coaching job.

Shephard helped develop Germie Bernard and Ryan Williams in his first season at Alabama in 2024, and helps lead a passing game that is third-best in the SEC in 2025 with 292.45 passing yards per game.
